Protecting Legal Aid for Family Mediation

Making sure families from all backgrounds and income levels can seperate through mediation.

OUR MISSION
Our mission is to provide vital support to all individuals going through separation or divorce, helping them make decisions regarding their children's future, manage their finances and debts, all while minimising conflict.

49% of children in one-parent families live in poverty and nearly 6 million people claiming Universal Credit. Legal Aid is the sole mechanism that renders it feasible for low-income families to receive assistance for mediation. Those on low incomes but above the Legal Aid threshold are faced with stark choices. Ensuring mediation is accessible to these families is of paramount importance.

With Legal Aid payment fees not being reviewed for over 19 years and stringent contract rules, the number of providers offering legal aid is dropping fast.

We now stand on a crunch point, and 77 of the remaining legal aid providers have come together to ensure this vital support remains available to those who need it the most. Join us in this crucial campaign to preserve access to family mediation for low income families.

Together, we can make a powerful impact and bring about the necessary changes to protect the rights and well-being of those going through separation or divorce.

Together, we can make a difference!

Decline in Mediation Providers

Over the last five years, we have seen a 36% decrease in providers offering legal aid mediation.

Decline in Mediators Working in Firms Offering Legal Aid Mediation

Over the last 5 years, the number of mediators forming within firms offering legal aid has diminished.

Increase in Demand in Legal Aid Mediation

Over the past 5 years, the demand for legal aid mediation has increased, resulting in positive outcomes from legal aid-funded mediation.
